Matt was simply getting overwhelmed with new accounts to approve, MDC or not.
The 3-post limit is a sort of vetting process. We will not automatically upgrade accounts to 18 posts per day. We're having enough problems with spammers with the 3-post limit. Have to wonder if his motivation isn't that a board he was using got spammed by "us".
And, don't forget that new members staying at that level longer doesn't unfairly punish any one MDC participant. The impact is felt by all participants equally.
If two members each referred 150 new people, and their first 100 got immediately approval for 18 posts but the last 50 didn't, they both still end up with 250 points.
We didn't change the MDC rules mid-stream. We changed an admin policy. I refuse to change MDC rules mid-stream. If I did, some of the folks in it wouldn't be, because the first rule change I'd have made would've been "Don't spam other sites with that link."
