Their response is to skirt and marginalize ANYTHING they CAN get away with.
I had a long talk with a American lawyer type recently during some other business last week.
Intelligent and likeable man, clearly a clever and successful lawyer, but talk about UNinformed in the philosophy of natural law and liberty! He was a dripping socialist, and a wealth redistribution advocate even though he publically demonstrated his own affluence in subtle ways. I countered him on several points during our discussion I found him lacking in and all he could say (paraphrased) was, "Do you really want to take on a monolithic (authoritarian) point of view? Aren't there better things to do with your time?"
He said the definitions of key words were not important any longer in law, which nearly dropped my jaw.
I was like, "Wow! So EVERYTHING is so arbitrary and subjective now?" Words and definitions no longer describe shared realities? If it is so arbitrary and subjective on governmental side, then I guess I can assume that we the common folk have that same rights, correct? Just make shit up that goes our way based on nothing. Equal protection, and all that, right? Whatever I say goes, goes too then, or are you just saying you CAN because you people have the power of threatening violence against others to enforce what is essentially bullshit."
He spoke of rights provided for by government. I corrected him and he rather awkwardly ceded and a bit agitated at having been chided by someone of "unannointed legal status", steered off to regain control of the conversation.
He didn't like it much when I corrected him. Rather than alienate him too much, I just stopped the conversation from drifting that direction after a bit. I could see he was agitated with a sickeningly sarcastic smile of contempt for my weird, liberty based thinking. We parted friendly, but with me having an even greater understanding of the pomposity and self-assuredness of a group of people whose belief it is that controlling the strings and looking down upon the masses as mere resources to confound, deny truth, and profit from that confusion is a right in itself.
