I'm sorry, but he most certainly did not misinform me. "Mailing to shareholders on record" does not indicate to me that it is limited strictly to the physical address of the shareholder.
Note the reference in the company PR to the term "shareholders of record". For the most part, individuals using online brokerages such as Scottrade, eTrade, etc. accept, by default, that their broker is the "shareholder of record". The individual can request to have their shares recorded under their own name and address, but this is more of an exception rather than the rule.
