I don't want to sound as if I think that people affected by SARS have no problems, but in the large view of things, SARS is for instance more benign than AIDS, Malaysia was hit with a strong wave of AIDS a little while back, but that did not change the main path of economic development there. In Africa, though, AIDS seems to be a real cause for not just health misery, but economic misery as well.
