a moving window would remove the upward bias. think of it as a running sum of the last X values, X being the width of the window.

re: summation. Could you expand the charts again with the summation? With many summations, I don't look to absolute values, just to see whether they're moving up, or down. Perhaps a 5MA or 10 MA of the summation?
