I have to disagree. Only a tiny percentage of artists are current being paid by recording companies. Most musicians and songwriters make living by live performance. If the promotion machine can be stopped so that people spend more of their entertainment money on local live performers instead of concentrating money to the promoters and a few megastars/brats, many more musicians and songwriters would actually benefit.
