Microsoft doesn't even support mpeg4 yet, instead trying to shove their own closed standard down everybody's throat. it didn't work with mp3, and it won't work with mpeg4. plus these won't be computers anymore, they will be consumer electronics devices, which means they have to be easy to use and they have to work without crashing, both qualities MSFT sorely lacks.
linux and apple (also unix) are much much closer to fulfilling this need than softie.
