We're in the same boat. However, if you listen to the radio or anything in a car, you're already compromising because of the road and car noise, so there are some times when everyone says screw it and puts up with it.
I vote with you - there is nothing like listening to good music on good tube equipment. At my age though, the tubes both warm and bring alive most discs up to where the difference between disc and vinyl is not discernible to aged ears so I go with the discs also. Admittedly, there are some discs (mostly older ones) that nothing can salvage, but most are pretty good quality - especially the newer and re-mastered older ones.
