I don't think one can go by that display. There's not telling how many shares are for sale above the 3's by the mm's offering 3's, and those mm's happen to be the most active also.
I have noticed that the bid size is less than a third of what it was earlier in the day. That tells me that either they got tired of waiting or they didn't really want to buy: they were just showing bid support to encourage buying on the ask, perhaps because they are selling there....
I do know that if I were truly interested in buying, I would only put in a small bid at 2 for a few million, and then if the ask came down to fill it, and also lowered the ask, I'd then take what was offered on the ask at 2.
Showing large bid support just discourages selling....
