You have to sign up on one of them first in order for the RED RSS link to work.
I signed up for newsgator, and then came back to iHUB and clicked on the RSS link on some of my favorite IHUB Boards and it automatically added them to my newsgator page.
"RSS" just stands for "Really Simple Syndication," and that's exactly what these feeds offer you, the online news consumer. "XML" is the language that's used to create these feeds. So whenever you see either button, it means that site offers these feeds as an alternate way to get your news. http://www.denverpost.com/search/ci_2882891
If I open the rss feed for this thread I get a list in the top pane of the posts. One line for each post. So for instance your last post reads: Old_Drummerman: Hahaha, you, or some.... 2/18/2006 11:57 AM Cintrix: I'm glad you asked first! 2/18/2006 11:41 AM And so on. If I click on one of those lines it opens the actual web page.
One can set this up to alert or refresh itself in various ways. Like if I want to know the next time someone posts on this board it will alert me. So if I am following a few boards here I will get the updates in roughly the form I typed above without ever actually coming to this site.
You can use this with blogs, newspapers, threads etc. So all of it is in one place and all of it alerts you to new information coming from any source you choose. All you need do is download a free reader. Matt posted one to me last night on the rss thread. Or you can incorporate the whole thing into a MyYahoo page if you want to do it that way.
