In my immediate area, on two separate home invasions, the intruder was shot and injured, not the home owner. That occurred in the last 3 weeks. Police showed up later.
Guns are made for killing. (You are just giving me reasons why you might want to kill... and clearly there are many others as evidenced by the 10s of thousands of gun deaths we experience on a yearly basis.)
None of the other items you mention are specifically designed for killing. I think that was my point. You can change it around to fit your agenda as you see fit. No one ever bought a bathtub or a swimming pool to kill his wife. In those cases accidents occur. Not so with guns. Outside of the few Darwin Award winners, people killed with guns are not accident victims.
