Why the distinction? Well, the data released today have been in hand for a while—perhaps as long as two weeks. So ENTA would presumably have been able to share these data with a prospective suitor (not necessarily ABBV) who was deemed to be serious.
Perhaps more important, the bullish signal given by the CEO and CSO when they exercised and held 12M worth of stock on 1/10/14 (#msg-95887112, #msg-95888322) is still in effect.
