Three years after being heralded as the fastest drug launch ever and quickly racking up $1 billion in sales, the Incivek hepatitis C treatment will be discontinued this coming October by Vertex Pharmaceuticals.

“This decision has been taken in view of available alternative treatments and the diminishing market demand for Incivek,” Vertex wrote in an Aug. 11 letter to health care providers. A copy was obtained by Pharmalot.
