Not sure what you want in the way of understanding...

It obviously has folks in a panic. I don't think there is a "cure" yet which probably explains the hysteria... I do believe malaria can be cured if medical help is available.

I attribute the outbreak to overpopulation... same with AIDS if you are going to talk about Africa. Too many people in one place the population will be culled... war, disease, or famine... take your pick.

Europe is the only area in the world that reduced its numbers in recent years through birth control... the only sensible, intelligent way to keep things at a reasonable level especially since we are living far longer than previous generations.

People are still primitive beings...

Don't see the intelligent way winning out in the near future.

20,000 to 30,000 elderly die each year in the US from influenza. The SARS issue is that based on the limited numbers of people that have come down with SARS this is a highly lethal sickness with deaths between 4% - 5%.

Extrapolate that to millions coming down with SARS and you can see why it's a big deal.
