1. Small numbers as a percentage of the float (at least as reported by Google Finance).

FMCC float: 650M; short% ~1%

FNMA float: 1.16B; short % ~0.75.

2. It would be really interesting to know the *current* numbers; up, or down?

Nasdaq shows "no short interest"
I think i trust Tain's Finra better. There should not be so much misinformation. I was trying to track the institutional ownwership Nasdaq does not seem to be forwarded the correct data.

Shorts are dramatically decreasing. This reminds me of a stock NextWave Wireless who at one time had a huge short position that slowly got covered until a MAJOR BOOM of 1000% gain overnight. It went from 14c to $1.44 and had a buyout announced by At&t for $2 per share.

When the shorts are small there is Big Mews imminent. IMO.
