#127073 RE: This Causes an Error #127072

Are Oracle's chips a joke?

but not on a performance/technical level.

ROFL, T5 is lot's of highly threaded stupid little cores on a big hot
chip you buy in a ridiculously overpriced box.

http://www.spec.org/cpu2006/results/res2013q4/cpu2006-20130920-26319.html

So 1 chip, 16 cores, 128 threads, 3.6 GHz gets 441 SPECint_rate_base2006
while running 112 copies of the benchmark.

Compare that to a Xeon E5-2697 v2

http://www.spec.org/cpu2006/results/res2013q4/cpu2006-20131018-26856.html

So 1 chip, 12 cores, 24 threads, 2.7 GHz gets 473 SPECint_rate_base2006
while running 24 copies of the benchmark

The Xeon is giving you better throughput and 5X better per
thread performance
while burning about half the power.

Summary, T5 is a hot POS suitable only for very highly threaded
workloads with very low single thread performance requirements.
Even then a Xeon would the smarter and cheaper choice. Only
SPARC binary hostages would choose Oracle's overpriced POS.
