CCMP uses them, the tire industry uses them, the paint industry uses them, Cabot and Degussa have got that market cornered... As for the aerogels, it is really more a question of finding a good application. Whirlpool and Amana (and probably others) have tried to use them as refrigerator insulation, the form factor was more a problem than the cost. I have actually used CF produced aerogel for unique TE cells, but Igloo (the project's sponsor) did not feel they really needed the extra performance even though the cost differential would not have been that great. That is one reason I call these "future technology today and future technology ten years from now" (g).

brainlessone, by nanogel, do you mean fumed silica etc? In contrast to aerogels, I have never heard this name before, because, by definition, any gel, including Jell-O is a nanogel. Are you trying to push the right button here? <G>
