#23167 RE: AKvetch #23120

To AKvetch: Jimlur made a proposal on this board (see msg#22748). Although I think we share the same goal, I'm not sure I can think of an entirely adequate solution.

I don't think "voluntary associations" (like an IHub board) need have the same protections of "free speech" that are guaranteed under the Bill of Rights of our Constitution. Even MATT & BOB's rules regarding the use of profanity or personal insults on the IHub boards constrain Constitutional standards of "free speech". Religious societies constrain the free speech of their members from attacking or subverting the fundamental beliefs of their organization on pain of their possible excommunication. And a scientific organization presumably would expel a member who refuses to acknowledge or accept use of "the scientific method" to justify his "scientific" claims.

All I am suggesting is that there be a way of preventing individuals from subverting the purpose for which a board is organized. There should be a way of identifying individuals whose behavior is inconsistent or subversive to the goals of a board (beyond the use of profanity, insults, or threats to other board members). I'm not yet clear on what such a method for identifying such individuals would or should be.
