As the industry prepares for a CES in which Ultra HD/4K TV products are expected to comprise a huge part, there's new data from NPD Group DisplaySearch indicated that sales of the TVs will skyrocket next year.
Shipments of the products worldwide are expected to jump to 12.7 million units in 2014, up from 1.9 million units in 2013. The majority of those purchases will be in China, but sales elsewhere are expected to rise over the next few years as well.
“As the manufacturers of 4K TV LCD panels and sets expect strong growth in 2014, the supply chain focus on growing demand is rising dramatically,” Paul Gagnon, director for global TV research at NPD DisplaySearch, said as part of the announcement.
“Panel makers are planning for nearly 27 million 4K TV panels to be produced next year, while brands have somewhat more modest expectations for the end market, but there is a significant difference in outlook between China and other regions.”
