Doesn't hysteria produce perception and doesn't perception move markets? Bottopm line is that the negative perception alone has and will cost many companies profits.

Zeev, Odds are greatly with you but if SARS would be any attempt at a repeat of 1918-1919 the hysteria would be serious.

You may or may not be right on SARS. It seems to kill about 5% of those infected -- the same ratio as the infamous 1918-1920 flu epidemic that accounted for 20 million deaths.

The key question is how far and fast will it spread?

how can you say that as the story is just unfolding...and facts were hidden in China....maybe it will blow over but to say its a pussycat is very prematre

Agreed. I actually stayed in that hotel in Philli a couple years ago (no choice, everything was booked).

I think the potential to spread a good deal is pretty high given that it's related to the common cold but maybe it dies off with warmer weather.

BUT........ might not we get weakening sales (and therefore estimate reductions) if asian economies weaken because of the hysteria?
