DMCQ, let me try again, since you essentially linked to an article that said that 70% of all exchange traffic uses high frequency trades, which are run on Xilinx FPGA modules. What the article doesn't state, is that you don't boot systems and run the scalar part of the workload on these FPGA modules, but that the way it really works is that you have a bunch of Xeon systems with FPGA accelerator cards hooked up through a PCI-Express connection. The workload is actually split between both the FPGA as well as the Xeon CPU.

And frankly, the model works well and is well understood, and no one thinks that an ARM based SOC is going to replace Intel as the core of those systems.
