It's a question of "perspective." jq1234. You medical research folks and biostatisticians tend to see things in more or less black-and-white terms. But clinical practice involves infinite shades of gray.
But you're right that even people in the same area can have very different perspectives on the same data. A personal tale to prove your point:
My hematologist recently told me the story of a patient who wanted a second opinion for his diagnosis and treatment regimen for her CML. He's a completely open-minded kind of guy, so he said fine. She went to a doctor in the San Fernando Valley--my doc is on the Westside of Los Angeles--and the doctor that she consulted with accused my doctor of practicing "cowboy" medicine. And why did he accuse my doctor of that? Because my doctor wanted to use Tasigna as first-line therapy in this patient's CML. Yes, there's a difference between clinicians as well; I realize that.
I don't understand the market excitement over these data from a single center study in 18 patients, that apparently neither can be defined as true CRs.
