Older as in 20+ years older was a fun gun and very well built. Not an inexperienced persons gun though. That half cock safety thing is an accidental discharge waiting to happen with a young hunter. I've experienced several in person one of which hit at my feet between my ankles.
Of course the 30-30 is not exactly the big hitting cartrige it's likely killed more big game in this country then any other.
