Do you think that our perpetual exposure to media desensitizes us to tragedy to some extent? How has human consciousness and perception changed as a consequence of exposure to perpetual media (entertainment). I wonder to what extent experience is percieved almost as an out of body experience, as if one is watching oneself, or as if one is in a movie. I have noticed a change in the self-awareness of children. Is it due to differences in parenting and the hyper vigilence of certain parents, or to TV and a barrage of information that would make them chronically aware of how they are percieved and how to behave for a desired effect. Children seem very aware that they are cute, very different behavior from clips I've recently seen of children from prior decades.
