I would guess it is institutional selling
Normally I would agree with you that we would encounter some support before the gap. BUT, when you consider the volume and technical indicators, and the shorting, there is now a 40% chance by my reckoning that we are headed there. Not a pretty sight. To nibble here is to stand in front of a landslide, but some folks get caught up in their own story. IF, there was some huge bump up in the data this Friday, it might turn it around. But, based on the present level of freefall, the stock will be at the start of the gap, so it may be moot.
