They would be going to the Canton Fair in the city Guangzhou, Guandong Province, some 75 miles to the north northwest of Hong Kong. This trade fair will take place from Oct 31 to Nov 4. It has an international pavilion in which there will be more than 1,000 exhibitors. This is the only trade show that the national political leadership is likely to visit. They would walk around, shake hands and talk with the exhibitors. They may even set aside a room for a group meeting. Besides that, they are going to paaartyyyyy! I am sure they know somebody in Guangzhou, which is equivalent to going to New York.
If you have ever done any trade shows, you know you bump into some business acquaintance or make some, and go from there. But it does not mean that you are going to acquire any business. The announcement is sort of deceptive since they could have simply said that they were going to the biggest trade show and also use the opportunity to visit a few other potential customers nearly, or if they meet someone, to make an arrangement to visit them.
It is my understanding that they would like to have some of the investors pay for their own trip to go along. Why would they make such an offer? They need people to hang around the exhibit. If they cannot afford to walk around the show and go to meetings because someone has to be at the company tables, one losses a lot. If there are not three or four people around most of the time, even if they like the product, potential customers may not be interested because they would feel that the company will not be able to service the product. That may actually be part of the reason that the company cannot get a contract with an outfit such as Whole Foods. When a large client buys a product of this nature, it is not only the quality of the product that matters but the staying power of the provider. So, in essence, they need free manpower as part of the marketing. If they really had friends there and had worked something pre-show, they would have told us who and what. If they had gone for visits with specific parties, they would have told us whom.
So, this is the essence of the problem. The company just doesn't have the resources to be whom they want to be. The first step in the process should have been to find investors and put money into the company. Without something like about ten million dollars this is dead in the water. The stock may make a run but the business can go nowhere. They are not willing to take money out of their pockets to fund Eco-Safe, but they are willing to throw a Hail Mary pass.
