Specialist short sales are one of the better indicators - if you know them in a timely fashion. Unfortunately, the specialists keep that information to themselves until it is out of date, and the figures Hussman is looking at is a month or more old, taking us back to the beginning of the recent rally.

That aside, I am still of the opinion that if the market gets through earnings period (with some serious help) without tanking, we will likely be presented with a rally as we enter the dead season, barring unexpected news.

The specialists are usually right, but often timing is suspect. Reports are late and also the specialists can change several months before a big move or they just made a tactical reallocation that is over before the data is published.
