DALLAS, TX - OCTOBER 13: Brennan Clay #24 of ...
Texas hasn't beat rival Oklahoma since 2009, but the team is still on top financially.
The No. 15 Texas Longhorns played against BYU Saturday night in what many expected to be an easy road win. Instead, the Cougars ran all over Texas, walking away with a lopsided 40-21 victory. That’s not a good look for the Longhorns, but the team can fall back on a nice silver lining – it will still be the sport’s most valuable, and by a wide margin.
Generally speaking, winning on the field is the best way to generate millions off of it. Last year, Oregon made its first ever appearance on our list of college football’s most valuable teams, ranking 15th with a value of $74 million. That value, and the $52 million the team generated in revenue, was largely built on the back of stunning on-field success for the Ducks, who have become one of the sport’s most exciting teams.
