sarals: I know what you mean. My analytical/math skills were very helpful in getting my first executive job out of grad school. However, my people skills became more important for future promotions. It turned out that I needed both skills to keep advancing.
I was in executive management for over 10 years and became a self-employed management consultant several years ago. I still use my analytical/mathematical talent on a regular basis, however, I don't use the extremely high level problem solving that my exams required when I worked on my BA in Economics and my Masters degree in management in a specialized field. I'm not sure I could do now what I did then.
I just haven't tested myself at the highest academic levels that I was tested at then. Who knows how I'd do? Not me!!!
