#1476 RE: OldAIMGuy #1475

Needing to check to make sure the burp tank isn't leaking. I filled the radiator yesterday as the engine idled and though the radiator level remained the same, it seemed the burp tank was bottomless.

The combination of getting the runners switching correctly and removing the intake silencer has made the car more fun.

If I get it on the highway in 3rd gear (2nd gets too much wheelspin so you can't hear the engine as well), I can floor it and watch the tach and right as soon as the needle hits 4k, the engine sound changes to a gratifying "Waaaaaaa" and things get a lot more lively real fast. You can feel an extra partial-g kick concurrent with the change in the intake sound.

Sell it to you? hehe As so often happens with these kinds of projects, I know I'm going to eventually have about $5k in a car that's worth $2k but is perfect for my uses.

While I was working on the intake the other night, I also finally fixed the danging sunroof/maplight housing and every night for the foreseeable future that I get a chance, I'm going to spend a little time working on the many little problems the car has. Like the interior lights not coming on when the driver's door is opened, the rear defroster not working, the AC not blowing cold air, the electrical open circuit somewhere that I've had to "patch" with a jumper wire in the fuse box (I noticed the other day that the insulation on that wire has been getting hot), the shifter boot not sealing completely, the other leaks (door seals?) that're letting the car fill with gravel dust, etc.

I looked briefly into the driver-door/interior-light problem the other night and this one's going to be a challenge.

There are only two switches I can find on that door. If the door is open, the "Door ajar" light comes on, and it goes off if I shut the door, but if I just leave the door open and push in both switches, the DA light doesn't go out. Just occurred to me that the outer metal tip of one of the switches might need to make ground through the door. Will try that tonight if I get the chance.

Once the cooling system situation is sorted out and I get the brakes bled, I think she'll be completely track-ready. It still handles funky in left turns, but I can live with it. The Mustang is full of similar quirks.

I'll definitely be the slowest car in the instructor run groups. Street tires and street pads. And I won't have any desire to wear out pads on this one at the track.

Oh, and now that 2-3k stumble it used to have is completely gone. Feels smooth and solid throughout the rev band.
