Either way, I think the important thing is that Intel use FBD in their memory controller implementation. I don't think Intel will have an issue keeping up with micro-architecture in the mean time.

There's nothing magic about an OBC, they've done it before, way before AMD. If Intel needs it to meet AMDs performance in 2007 they'll do it. Right now, it appears they surpass AMD in late 2006 in performance and PPW in all platforms and that's all they need to regain any market share lost. Given the past heat from staying with Netburst too long they might as well just byte the bullet and go for it.

What happens to AMD if it doesn't retain the performance leadership in at least one platform?
