Reminds me of my ex-husband's family. They lived in OK and there were 17 kids, my ex was number 16 of 17. They went to school, but work was first priority, getting up to work in the fields early before going. If they brought any book or magazine home they were punished and the school was called and told they had better things to do than reading or homework. When my ex was about 11 or 12, he was taken out of school and worked full time as a roofer under the supervision of his step dad. That meant, the step dad setup the job, drop him and his brother off in the morning and picked them up at the end of the day and of course, and collected all the money. All true...
