Well, I don't think there is any clinical trials to support this, more traditional medicine type of thing, thus for sites like Mayo they have to use words you highlighted. This has been around for a LONG time. I had some eye problem when I was a kid - I am a little bit more than half of your age - it was recommended to me taking fish oil back then, never had problem since.
