South Korean mobile phone service provider Korea Telecom Freetel (KTF) will begin selling Samsung-branded 3G handsets using Samsung’s newly-developed CDMA2000 1x 3G chips in the middle of this month, a milestone event as Samsung has been depending entirely on Qualcomm for CDMA chips, the Seoul-based The Electronics Times reported the company as saying.
The South Korean handset giant expects to export handsets using its 3G chips before year-end.
The company is also developing WCDMA chips and expects to launch handsets using its own WCDMA chips in the near future, according to the report. <<
