Bob, Substantiating Questionable/Libelous Statements...
when presented as Fact instead of Opinion is one way to resolve the problem, so that we're not faced with the inability to delete:
"XYZ is a Scam and the CEO a Fraudster"
which is clearly allowed under your current guidelines and clearly undesirable if iHUB is going to be a notch above the competition...
It's in the interests of all concerned, readers and posters to substantiate a statement presented as "fact" and if it cannot, then it should be posted as an opinion... I would have no problem, had the brash poster in question prefaced his statement by "I believe"...
"Don't hold your breath for Rich to step up - I believe his money is safely stashed offshore."
It makes all the difference, provided it's not abused....
"When you delete a post because it's "libel", you are effectively deleting it because it is "not true", and put the site in the position of asserting that all undeleted posts are "true".
No, Bob, you're deleting it to PROTECT the party being defamed because it's more important than all the other considerations and in the process, you may also protect the Defamer, who can cool down, think twice and re-post minus the Libelous part of the post OR with a supporting Link...
"Don't hold your breath for Rich to step up - his money is safely stashed offshore."
How do you know it's Libel?... Because the Chairperson is familiar with the stock, while you're NOT... For instance you were recently under the wrong impression that McBride was an Officer/Director of SEVU, which he's NOT, since February... I know that and so do the Directors of the thread...
But, in this case, it's very clear that the poster is reaching and even making a damaging personal attack in the process...
BTW, I am not defending McBride, but using this sentence as a good example... Inciting posters to support allegations works both ways, for the Bears and the Bulls and make for much more thoughtful posts, thus improving quality...
The iHUB model is ideally suited to become a quality Message Board with the correct nurturing policies...
