I've never owned stock in a company that was bought by another company so I'll ask the Stupid Question of the Day: What happens to the stock owned by John Q. Investor? My guess would be that it is converted into shares of the company buying out the other, even if that means your 1000 shares of Company A becomes 25 shares of Company B.
