I also was a bit bummed out about not only David Bloom, who just as you did, I just started to like. It takes awhile for me to get to like a reporter, as I usually start from a position of basic distrust.
I get depressed thinking about all the fine young men and women who are getting killed and hurt over there, but know deep down inside that what they are doing is worthwhile. I think I would rather die doing something worthwhile than to live a worthless life.
I think we should focus on the good things about those who were here, and now are gone. We knew them but a little while, a time too short, and now we have them no more. Their virtues will be written in our memories and on the tablets of time. Their faults as on the sand of a beach at low tide, to be swept away and forgotten. Let it be so with us when we depart this life.
