I personally have used wood most of my life. Particularly Ash which is coppiced.

We prefer strawbale designed homes because of their high R values. Straw gives a R-40 insulation value when it's 14 inches thick, whereas you'd have to contruct 12" thick fiberglass packed walls to get R-40.
