#22181 RE: drwatson #22170

I almost hurt myself when I saw that "Askatout" comment.

Very, very nicely done, Dr. Watson. In the best tradition of always trying to out-do whatever was done before.

There've been some great gags pulled by groups of people who use message boards and this is the first one I know of where one of the major board sites itself was at the heart of the gag. Loved that we poked fun at a number of different kinds of people but balanced it with a huge dose of self-deprecation.

Some of the material was new to me until I implemented the changes last night then really started walking through the Canatout site. There's some priceless stuff there! Like the dentistry references, and the nods to other classic pranks.

To kind of break it down for everyone, Dr. Watson is the genius behind today's gag. We'd crossed paths working on pranks and gag sites in the past so we talked a while back about a gag for this year and I told him what I'd really like to see is rather than some users doing an April Fools' prank, let's involve the whole site, preferably a takeover by a Canadian touting consortium.

He took that ball and absolutely RAN with it. My contributions to this one were comparatively minor. The menus, putting his changes in place on the homepage, the "Voluntary Disclosure" when posting a new message, "New Subscribers". Stuff like that.

Tina implemented his revisions to the Terms of Service. If anyone didn't read it in its entirety, they missed some priceless gags within it -- my favorite being the Spam definition.

Everything else was Watson's fault. <g> The entirety of the Canatout website, revising the ToS, and the text of the homepage announcement. And the hilarious banners.

BTW, those banners were HEAVILY clicked. Advertisers would drool over the Clickthrough Rates we got on those.

We need to figure out how to top this one next year. <g>
