A member of South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers was killed and another was wounded in a shooting at the union's Lonmin office northwest of Johannesburg.
The NUM general secretary Frans Baleni said that the chairman of the Lonmin branch of NUM was killed in the incident, and the other union member is in hospital.
The NUM said it didn't know who carried out the shooting. Lonmin and the police didn't respond to calls for comment.
