The total trade per day is around $170 million. One quant fund can easily handle this. I think computer is running the show. So it's more a retail/trader combination. The trend was very tradable. You just buy and hold and in several days, you got double. Nothing is more enticing and easier. The preferreds are owned by so called investors.
