The way I get around that is to read the post to me, and respond to it if necessary.

Then click back, click the message the poster responded to, and if necessary, click "last read" on that post.

I know it a lot of clicks, but it works for me.

on the subject of losing read public mail once opened..


why not use the keep function at the bottom of the post..

that way it will not be lost until you physically delete it..
