Meet Kiera Wilmot, a 16-year-old student in Bartow, Florida. Before last week, Bartow High School Principal Ron Pritchard tells WTSP-TV, she had "never been in trouble before. Ever." But then, the station reports, she
mix[ed] household chemicals in a tiny 8-ounce water bottle, causing the top to pop off, followed by billowing smoke in [a] small explosion.
Wilmot's friends and classmates said it was "a science project gone bad, that she never meant to hurt anyone."
Even the teen's principal said, "She made a bad choice. Honestly, I don't think she meant to ever hurt anyone. She wanted to see what would happen [when the chemicals mixed] and was shocked by what it did. Her mother is shocked too."
The explosion happened around 7 a.m. Monday morning on school property, and no one was hurt. Staff, along with the school resource officer, acted quickly.
The principal told 10 News, "She told us everything and was very honest. She didn't run or try to hide the truth. We had a long conversation with her." So: No one was hurt. There's no sign that Wilmot was up to something malevolent. The kid's own principal thinks this wasn't anything more than an experiment, and he says she didn't try to cover up what she had done. What punishment do you think she received? A stern talking-to? A day or two of after-school detention? Maybe she'll have to help clean up the lab for a week?
Nope. The budding chemist has been kicked out of school and charged with a couple of felonies:
Wilmot was arrested Monday morning and charged with possession/discharge of a weapon on school property and discharging a destructive device.
The teen was expelled and will now complete her education in an expulsion program. Miami New Times reports that Wilmot will be tried as an adult.
A statement from Polk County Schools says, "We urge our parents to join us in conveying the message that there are consequences to actions. We will not compromise the safety and security of our students and staff." As far as I can tell, the only person in this story facing a serious threat to her safety and security is the girl who might have to serve a prison sentence -- but then, she doesn't go to Bartow High anymore, so perhaps the school system doesn't think she counts.

Update: Three more details in this story from the Lakeland Ledger: She mixed the chemicals outside rather than indoors, she didn't leave the area afterwards, and according to police she "said she thought the materials would produce only smoke, not an explosion."
Update #2: The New Times has acquired the police report and posted it here, along with the school district's not-at-all-persuasive defense of its actions.
The Pentagon has released a statement confirming that soldiers could be prosecuted for promoting their faith: "Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense...Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis...”. The statement, released to Fox News, follows a Breitbart News report on Obama administration Pentagon appointees meeting with anti-Christian extremist Mikey Weinstein to develop court-martial procedures to punish Christians in the military who express or share their faith. (From our earlier report: Weinstein is the head of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and says Christians--including chaplains--sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in the military are guilty of “treason,” and of committing an act of “spiritual rape” as serious a crime as “sexual assault.” He also asserted that Christians sharing their faith in the military are “enemies of the Constitution.”) Being convicted in a court martial means that a soldier has committed a crime under federal military law. Punishment for a court martial can include imprisonment and being dishonorably discharged from the military. So President Barack Obama’s civilian appointees who lead the Pentagon are confirming that the military will make it a crime--possibly resulting in imprisonment--for those in uniform to share their faith. This would include chaplains—military officers who are ordained clergymen of their faith (mostly Christian pastors or priests, or Jewish rabbis)--whose duty since the founding of the U.S. military under George Washington is to teach their faith and minister to the spiritual needs of troops who come to them for counsel, instruction, or comfort. This regulation would severely limit expressions of faith in the military, even on a one-to-one basis between close friends. It could also effectively abolish the position of chaplain in the military, as it would not allow chaplains (or any service members, for that matter), to say anything about their faith that others say led them to think they were being encouraged to make faith part of their life. It’s difficult to imagine how a member of the clergy could give spiritual counseling without saying anything that might be perceived in that fashion. In response to the Pentagon’s plans, retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin, who is now executive vice president of the Family Research Council (FRC), said on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning: It’s a matter of what do they mean by "proselytizing." ...I think they’ve got their defintions a little confused. If you’re talking about coercion that’s one thing, but if you’re talking about the free exercise of our faith as individual soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines, especially for the chaplains, they I think the worst thing we can do is stop the ability for a soldier to be able to exercise his faith.” FRC has launched a petition here which has already collected over 30,000 signatures, calling on Secretary Hagel is stop working with Weinstein and his anti-Christian organization to develop military policy regarding religious faith. **UPDATE** The FRC petition has now exceeded more than 40,000 signatures at the time of this update. Mock DHS News Report Depicts Gun Owners as Terrorists
Demonization of Second Amendment accelerates Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com May 1, 2013 A mock news report produced by the Department of Homeland Security depicts American gun owners as terrorists in another example of how the federal agency is trying to demonize the Second Amendment while itself stockpiling ammunition.
The report depicts the arrest of “an extremist group reportedly planning a series of terrorist attacks on U.S. cities.” Dramatic footage shows police conducting a mock raid of a house and yelling at reporters to get back while the news reporter relates how the men were arrested on charges of “illegal possession of firearms.” Similar to previous DHS characterizations of likely terrorists, the men are played by two Caucasians in their 40's. The video was grabbed from the DHS.gov website.https://hseep.dhs.gov/hseep_Vols/default1.aspx?url=rightTreeDisplay.aspx? .and appears in a file along with other documents from a HSEEP training program run in coordination with FEMA in the interests of “national preparedness.” As we have previously documented, the federal agency’s insistence on portraying the vast majority of terrorists in its training videos as white middle class Americans has prompted charges that the DHS is attempting to demonize conservatives and big government adversaries. However, the portrayal of gun owners as terrorists is sure to stoke even more rancor amongst those who are concerned that the DHS is being prepared to aid in overseeing the Obama administration’s gun control agenda while itself buying ammunition in huge quantities. As we reported last month, the federal agency is testing a number of different drones at a scientific research facility in Oklahoma that have sensors capable of detecting whether a person is armed, stoking concerns that the federal agency is planning on using UAVs to harass gun owners. The DHS is also collaborating with New York State government officials to confiscate guns belonging to people who are deemed, often erroneously, to have a mental condition. The DHS’ commitment to buy around 2 billion rounds of ammunition has become a huge controversy in recent months, with the Government Accountability Office announcing this week that an investigation of the purchases is “just getting underway.”
I'm not a Democrat.(or Republican) But JFK and younger brother were heros IMO. Too bad that they are now dead.
Let's see what Roberts son says. I'm sure he hears more than you or I.
Almost 50 years later, there’s a new twist in the JFK assassination conspiracy.
Robert Kennedy Jr. has announced that his uncle, President Kennedy, may not have been the victim of a lone assailant but rather that of a large conspiracy. To boot, Junior revealed that his father, who was also assassinated under questionable circumstances, privately believed that the Warren Commission report was a “shoddy piece of craftsmanship.”
Publicly, members of Camelot have remained rather quiet about the murder since it happened some five decades ago. But privately, some Kennedys have expressed the same doubts about certain areas of the JFK assassination as supposed conspiracy nuts, doubts that RFK Jr. has now shared with the rest of us…
RFK Jr. told Charlie Rose during a recent interview that most likely the killer was not a lone gunman. That, of course, goes against the Warren Commission report that singled out Lee Harvey Oswald as the perpetrator, and that ultimately decided he had acted alone. Like his father, Junior too questioned the report.
Investigators have pointed to many troubling aspects of the Commission’s findings as proof that a conspiracy was involved. For one thing, two of the three coroners involved in JFK’s autopsy had never conducted an autopsy on a shooting victim. It sure showed, as the coroners allegedly committed obvious mistakes, perhaps ruining any possibility we’ll ever be able to know how many bullets or gunmen killed Kennedy.
After his brother’s assassination, Robert F. Kennedy, Sr. expressed concerns that a conspiracy of mobsters might have been behind it. As the United States Attorney General, RFK was incredibly aggressive against organized crime and felt that his actions might have caused mobsters to target his brother.
Could this open the door to a new investigation into the Kennedy assassination? We wouldn’t be surprised…
I know what your thinking. " but he is pointing fingers at mobsters".....yeah, that's a start. The covert groups never had ties to "mobsters" though right?
Riiiiiiiiight.
. It's not about "blame Anerica first".
It's about "Let's keep America first..but on the side of Light...not the Darkside".
"a Jedi's strength flows from the force, but beware the darkside"
