First of all, I am not advocating for Gun Control or banning guns. However, I do believe that universal background checks for all gun sales is the right thing to do and I would bet a fair majority of Americans has the same outlook on this.
As for the rest:
1. Bring our troops home from all their overseas military adventures and close 30% of our over 900 Global military bases.
Great in theory, but until we finally fully utilize our fossil fuel resources here at home we must have boots on the ground in the ME. Without that, our country could be brought to a standstill overnight by any of the muslim extremist kooks in the gulf.
2. Make the tax code fairer...How about raising the standard deduction to 40,000 dollars a year, and flat tax the rest...No Deductions at all...With the first 40,000 free, people could better afford to live a basic life...
This or something close to this would be great
3. Medicare actually works...Raise the medicare tax from 1.45% from employee and Employer...Raise it to at least 1.8%...
Nothing the Govt runs works and Medicare is already broken. The entire health system must be reformed and brought to more of a market based system.
4. Social Security is going to be there...Raise the cap on SS taxes from 113,000 to 150,000 in income....Keep the CPI increase on the cap every year.
How about lowering the rate for the first $40K by the old 2% SS Tax Holiday, then from $40K-$150K have the standard SS Tax? Then raise the retirement age a couple of years. It may also be time to looking into reducing benfits with a means test, but by no means should we ever completely eliminate SS based on the means test
5. Pass a balanced Budget Amendment.
No brainer
6. While we are having a constitutional convention...Pass an Amendment that only allows for individuals to donate to political campaigns...No Corporate or Partisan groups are allowed to give money to federal, state, or local political campaigns...Mandate a certain amount of TV airtime for each candidate to espouse their views free.
The system could still be gamed by anyone. High time to do a total overhaul on the entire campaign donation system.Cap the total any campaign can receive by office being run for, then utilize PBS since our tax dollars are already going there for more debates for each candidate to get their views across to the people.
7. Eliminate all corporate taxes...They are only passed through to the end consumer.
Would be a real growth and revenue generator.
8. Raise the Gas tax ten cents, with all money going against the deficit. The last time the federal gas tax was raised was in the early 1990's under Bush Sr.
Absolutely not. This would be a huge drag on the economy and have the mirror effect. Fully utilize our fossil fuel resources and the new jobs and revenues from that would quickly make deficits a thing of the past.
9. Eliminate the Dept of Homeland Security, the dept of education, and the dept of Energy, and the federal reserve. Move essential functions to other departments.
Cannot eliminate any, but reigning them in a bit may help.
10. Constrain the CIA to intelligence gathering only. They are not subject to the UCMJ.
Not sure how I feel about this one.
