Sarals, Good point... I think many people just say Merry XMAS out of tradition (brainwashing), has nothing to do with a religious affiliation.....

That's not logical. You don't want someone to say Merry Christmas because someone may not celebrate Christmas. So, why say Happy Holidays? Someone may not celebrate any of those either.

Better to just do what I do and sneer at people.

In working American the word Holiday no longer has the connotation of its etymology. When we get a day off from work we usually get it for a very secular reason. President's Day, Veteran's Day, Labor Day etc. all of which are also referred to as Holidays. Many working people in this country understand the greeting Happy Holidays simply as reminder that this is a time of year they get days off from work. Included in that greeting is the reminder that you also get a day off for the New Year.
