Colorado gunman had bomb-making materials in car

Authorities found bomb making materials inside the Cadillac of a white supremacist killed in a shootout Thursday with authorities in Decatur, according to a search warrant affidavit.

The materials were found in a backpack and duffel bag located in the trunk of a 1991 Cadillac Sedan that Evan Spencer Ebel had been driving when authorities say he was first pulled over by Montague County Sheriff's Deputy James Boyd.

Ebel shot Boyd three times before being pursued into Decatur where he hit a rock hauler and was fatally shot in a gunfight with law officers. Boyd was released today from a Fort Worth hospital.

Ballistics test released Monday confirmed that that the 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun used by Ebel in the shootout in Decatur was the same gun that killed Tom Clements, the executive director of the Colorado Department of Corrections, at his Monument, Colo. house on March 19.

Officials have said Ebel is also a suspect in the March 17 slaying of a Denver pizza delivery man based on a Domino's pizza carrier, shirt and visor found in the Cadillac. Police have speculated that Ebel had posed as a pizza deliverer to get Clements to open the door of his home.

Also found in the car's were maps, handwritten directions, apparent bomb-making instructions, surveillance equipment, sunglasses and a mask, zip-ties, duct tape, and a pair of pants with apparent blood on them, according to the evidence recovery log, which was released Tuesday.

The car had different Colorado license plates displayed on its front and back, the affidavit notes.

Colorado officials have said Ebel was a member of the 211 Crew, a white supremacist prison gang in Colorado.

Wise County officials have said they are unclear what prompted Ebel to head to Texas after the Colorado shootings.
