I am going to run some numbers by you...Tell my what you think...

Topic: Ten Cents increase in the Gas Tax...

Here in Farmland OH, gas is currently 3.89 per gallon...CA, HI, and Chicago are higher...Some are lower...I am going to use that number as an average...

That represents a 2.5% increase in gas prices...As an example, Ground Beef is around 3.00 a pound...If the tax was on Gound Beef...That would represent a 2.5% increase or the price would go from 3.00 to 3.075.

Since it is a consumption tax, there are options:
1. Buy a more fuel efficient car
2. Car Pool
3. Public Transportation

With the assumption that one drives 12,000 miles a year...And gets 25 MPG...That is 480 gallons of gas...That is an increased cost of 48.00 a year on the average...The Revenue would be in excess of 150 Billion a year...

The net effect...The average consumer would pay 48.00 more per year with options on how each person can reduce that...

It sounds pretty good to me...What do you think???

It is less than the rate of inflation on stuff we buy in the grocery store...
