Well, small lots over time equal big positions (accumulation). IN the meantime shorts get caught with their pants down and then you get a short squeeze which bring aboard all the people on the sidelines driving the price higher and higher until high volume sell off. Your volume argument would seem to show that there was no big blow off selling either to counteract that initial buying frenzy. Obviously I could be wrong, but that's just my two cents. It seems way too easy that this would become a good short (more than a couple days). When people are fearful, I buy. But, of course I am having doubts which is making me more convinced it will fly.

SYNC......initial pump rise......settle below or even before the pump occurred than launch back higher
