US calls for Gulf states to hike oil production AFX News Limited 11.13.2005, 12:49 PM
ABU DHABI (AFX) - US energy minister Samuel Bodman called on the Gulf states to increase oil production to meet demand and for greater transparency to stabilise the markets, as he attended a meeting with Emirati president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and his ministers.
The US, the largest consumer of energy produced in the Gulf, hopes that OPEC members will decide to hike production at their meeting scheduled for the end of the year, said Bodman.
'We encourage producers, whether members of OPEC or not, to keep the market supplied with their maximum possible production,' he said.
