Wedbush said that checks indicate that a shortage of NAND flash memory could potentially gate the shipment of low-end media players by some Asian manufacturers in Q4. Many of Sigmatel's (SGTL -.85%) customers are second-tier makers of media players based in Asia, and may not have the scale required to secure sufficient supplies of NAND flash memory at acceptable prices. As a result, firm says demand for SGTL's chips could be impacted in Q4. As firm sees SGTL's Q4 guidance as intentionally conservative, they do not expect the co to miss the low end of its rev guidance of $81-$91 mln; however, firm now feels the co is at best likely to announce results at the midpoint of its guidance range.
